Deacon’s Gathering (Classis Quinte)

Plans are underway for a Deacon’s Dialogue happening at Maranatha CRC in Belleville, ON.

All deacons, including wise, former deacons and prospective, future deacons, are invited. We’ll talk about some hot topics like How to Find New Deacons, Creating an Offering Schedule, Engaging with your Community/Neighbourhood, and all of your burning questions!

Tammy Heidbuurt, Regional Ministry Developer from Diaconal Ministries Canada, will also give a short talk on who they are and how they help deacons do ministry well.

Location: Maranatha CRC (100 College Street W, Belleville, ON)

Advocacy matters! When you speak out, you reflect the biblical call to work towards a just world in which structures and institutions give all of creation the opportunity to thrive.

“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” (Isaiah 1:17)

Contacting elected officials may be daunting, but sharing your well-informed opinion can make a real difference on the justice issues that you care about, and can bring about long-term changes to unjust systems. This workshop will help you learn how to navigate the political system to have your voice heard by local, provincial, and national leaders.

The Office of Social Justice is partnering with Canada Foodgrains Bank and their I CARE Campaign which is focused on ending global hunger and poverty by advocating to the Canadian government to increase aid funding and to change public policies that improve access to food for families and communities.

Helping Without Harming Workshop (Toronto, ON)

Are you looking for strategies to build an effective, sustainable ministry to a hurting world?

Is is time to re-evaluate the ministries your church is currently doing to see if they are effective and appropriate for the ones you aim to serve?

World Renew and Diaconal Ministries Canada, in partnership with Fellowship CRC in Toronto, invite you and your congregation for a “Helping Without Harming” Workshop to become equipped to engage God’s world globally and locally without harming others or yourself.

The workshop will take place at Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 800 Burnhamthorpe Road, Etobicoke, ON, June 8th, 2019, from 9:00am – 1:00pm. Featured workshop leaders include Peter Bulthuis, Associate Director Church Relations for World Renew Canada, and Ron Vanden Brink, National Director of Diaconal Ministries Canada. Diaconal Spring Conference (Classis Huron)

This is an evening of sharing and learning for all the deacons in Classis Huron.

The deacon’s role is to inspire and equip the congregations to faithful ministries of service. We are excited to welcome Pastor Norm Sennema, lead pastor of Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Cambridge, ON. Pastor Norm is passionate about developing followers of Christ and in our main session, he will help us discover how we can move from ministering to, or for
our congregation, to ministering through our congregation.

Church Benevolence Workshop (Alberta)

Calling all Deacons – past, present, and those who have a heart for benevolence!

Diaconal Ministries Canada (DMC) and WoodyNook CRC in Blackfalds, AB, are hosting a “Helping Without Harming in Church Benevolence” Workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 7 – 9 pm. This workshop addresses practical ways to help those who come knocking on our church doors AND how to engage in poverty alleviation in helpful, holistic ways.

We’ll have 20 copies of the book “Helping Without Hurting in Church Benevolence” (by Steve Corbett & Brian Flikkert) available for $20. The book has scenarios, templates and pdfs for practical use.

A workshop on how to alleviate poverty without harming the people you are trying to help!
